The Boston Celtics have been without rim protector Robert Williams III since late March, but Williams is reportedly close to making a return to Boston’s rotation – which could make things even tougher on the Nets as the team faces an 0-2 series deficit.
Williams underwent surgery to repair a torn left lateral meniscus on March 30, but has been steadily progressing toward a return and should beat his initial recovery timetable of 4-to-6 weeks. Williams missed the final seven games of the Celtics’ regular season.
Bruce Brown quipped before the series began that the Nets should be able to attack the Celtics down low due to Williams’ absence – but Brooklyn hasn’t found it easy to score against the league’s top defense.
According to a report from Shams Charania, Williams could potentially play in Game 3 on Saturday.
Boston Celtics center Robert Williams is close to a return and could play in Game 3 (Saturday) or Game 4 (Monday) vs. Nets, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Final determination will be made on how Williams feels day-to-day after suffering torn meniscus on March 27.
