With just over two weeks left until the NBA draft, the Boston Celtics are reportedly looking to trade up and are willing to package their three first-round picks in order to help facilitate a potential deal, according to Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer.
The Celtics have made each of their three first-round picks available, Nos. 14, 26 and 30, in trades in an attempt to move up into the mid-lottery. According to the report, which cited multiple league sources, the Celtics have had no luck so far as no team is willing to make a deal.
The Celtics have offered their three first-round picks (nos. 14, 26, and 30) in trades to try and move up, according to multiple league sources. So far, no one is biting.
Armed with three first-round picks, the organization may be reluctant to add that many rookie players to a roster that is set up to win now. The Celtics may also have their eye on a potential prospect that won’t be available at No. 14, though it is unclear which player that may be.
Celtics general manager Danny Ainge said previously that the organization may look to take a player based on need, rather than take the best player available approach on draft night. That stance would certainly fall in line with trying to trade up.
The rumors surrounding the draft will begin to heat up as Nov. 18 approaches and it will be worth monitoring how much movement will occur with teams trying to trade up and down.
