Report: CB Robert Alford suffered pectoral injury Sunday

How long he will be out is not yet known. He did not play at all last season after breaking his leg in training camp.

The Arizona Cardinals secondary has taken a blow. After missing all last season with a broken leg, cornerback Robert Alford is going to miss some time after suffering an injury in Sunday’s practice.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Alford suffered a pectoral injury on Sunday.

Four weeks before the Cardinals’ season opener, it would appear his availability could be in doubt.

Cardinals defensive coordinator Vance Joseph recently said the health of his starting cornerbacks would be critical to the team’s defensive success. They didn’t have Alford all last season and Patrick Peterson was suspended for the first six games.

If Alford has to miss a significant amount of time, the Cardinals will need another cornerback to step up. Chris Jones and Kevin Peterson played last season and they also have Duke Thomas, who spent last season on the practice squad, and undrafted rookie Zane Lewis.

It might force the Cardinals to have to go out and sign a veteran, but we will wait and see what the prognosis is.
