Report: Cam Newton has not ruled out a backup QB job

According to Ian Rapoport at NFL Network, Newton wants to be a starter but he has not ruled out being a QB2 in the right situation.

The Panthers somehow convinced Ron Rivera to give them a fifth-round pick for Kyle Allen. And yet six weeks after he was released, Cam Newton has yet to sign with another team. For those who believe Newton should be willing to take a backup job, here’s your answer.

According to Ian Rapoport at NFL Network, Newton wants to be a starter but he has not ruled out being a QB2 in the right situation.

Newton is now the only name quarterback left on the market. However, the last two to sign both accepted backup jobs. Jameis Winston took a pittance to play behind Drew Brees and Andy Dalton is now Dak Prescott’s understudy. Then again, Newton is more capable than either of them – not to mention at least a dozen projected starters going into the 2020 NFL season.

It’s strange that nobody has signed him yet, but it will happen eventually.
