Report: Cam Akers to be healthy scratch vs. 49ers, Rams could look to trade him

The Rams will make Cam Akers a healthy scratch in Week 2 and he could be on the trade block.

The Los Angeles Rams will face the San Francisco 49ers in Week 2 and they’ll do so without their starting running back from a week ago. According to Jay Glazer, Cam Akers is a healthy scratch for the Rams in Week 2 and the team could look to trade him.

Akers began last week’s game as the starting running back, only for Kyren Williams to earn more snaps and be more effective out of the backfield. While Akers ended up scoring a touchdown in Week 1, he finished with only 29 rushing yards on 22 attempts.

Besides Williams being more efficient on the ground, he will also trusted more in pass protection. The Rams also activated Royce Freeman from the team’s practice squad earlier this week, indicating that they could make a move at the running back position.

With Akers being a healthy inactive on Sunday, the Rams could look to find a trade partner for the former second-round pick. The Rams attempted to trade Akers during the 2022 season, but there weren’t any suit suitors that emerged.

Akers is the final year of his rookie contract and it appears his time in Los Angeles is winding down.
