Odell Beckham Jr. remains a member of the Cleveland Browns despite significant consternation about his status as the NFL’s trade deadline came and went. While the Browns held onto their wide receiver, Kimberley Martin of ESPN reports the team did have discussions about moving Beckham.
Martin tweeted that the Browns and New Orleans Saints made an effort to get a deal done. Beckham’s considerable salary and the return compensation made a deal unattainable. The Saints have under $1.4 million in available cap room, which doesn’t cover two game checks of Beckham’s $14.5 million salary for 2021.
Martin also indicates that there remains optimism in Cleveland that Beckham can make it work in Cleveland despite his recent struggles. Similar sentiments have been expressed by many in the connected Cleveland media in the last few days, too.
I’m told there were discussions re: Odell going to the #Saints — but both sides couldn’t agree on a workable deal, given how much OBJ is owed the rest of the year.
Plus, there still is optimism in the #Browns building that OBJ can be a big part of their second-half playoff push
