One NFL insider believes Aaron Rodgers will be in the cards for the Cleveland Browns in 2025.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport thinks the New York Jets will move on from the three-time MVP this offseason. Rapoport believes the Browns will be in pursuit if the Jets move on from the franchise quarterback as they look to bring in competition for Deshaun Watson.
Rodgers has played miserably with the New York Jets. The quarterback has seen himself more in the news than in the endzone. Rodgers has added to the dysfunction of the Jets, alienating the owners of the Jets, and his teammates. Rapoport mentioned in the same report that Jets’ receiver Garrett Wilson could request a trade if Rodgers returns to the team.
Rodgers is the perfect low-cost, high-risk high-reward option for the Browns this offseason. Rodgers may be inclined to take a short, team-friendly contract that is well under market rate, similar to Russell Wilson’s contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The 41-year-old would be an excellent bridge option for the Browns.
Unlike a quarterback chosen in the draft, the Browns wouldn’t need to invest in a future with Rodgers or similar free agent options like Sam Darnold and Kirk Cousins. As key franchise pieces contemplate their future with the organization, the Browns must go for broke next season and Rodgers is their best option.
Expect the analytically driven franchise to bet big on the former MVP.
