The Brooklyn Nets had an important offseason ahead of them as they try to make their team as competitive as possible for the near future after the trades of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. On the day that NBA teams can begin negotiating with free agents, it looks like the Nets took care of business.
According to reporting on Friday from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Brooklyn and restricted free-agent forward Cam Johnson have agreed to a four-year, $108 million contract. Johnson, 27, will now be in Brooklyn for the next few seasons and will be paid handsomely for it as the average annual value of the contract (AAV) is $27 million.
There were reports throughout the offseason suggesting that Johnson would be commanding a contract of at least $20 million per season and it looks like those figures would understatements. The former North Carolina Tar Heel came to the Nets in the Kevin Durant trade and averaged 16.6 points per game in 25 games with Brooklyn in 2022-23.
Restricted free agent F Cam Johnson has agreed on a four-year, $108 million deal to stay with the Brooklyn Nets, his agent Steven Heumann of @CAA_Basketball tells ESPN. Nets keep a young cornerstone acquired in deadline deal with Suns.
