Report: Broncos won’t place tender on LB Joe Jones

Broncos will not place a tender on linebacker Joe Jones.

The Denver Broncos will not place a tender on linebacker/special teams ace Joe Jones, according to The Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala.

Jones is among six Broncos players who are scheduled to become restricted free agents on Wednesday. Jhabvala reports that Denver not placing a tender on Jones does not necessarily mean the team won’t bring him back.

This year, original-round tenders are projected to be worth about $2,144,000. The veteran minimum for a player entering his fourth season (like Jones) is expected to be about $820,000 this season. So not using a tender on Jones might just be a way of saving money.

The Broncos are expected to place a tender on offensive lineman Elijah Wilkinson. It wouldn’t be surprising to see nose tackle Mike Purcell receive a one-year tender as well. Denver will not place a tender on cornerback De’Vante Bausby but he, like Jones, might be re-signed at a cheaper price.
