The Minnesota Vikings search for a defensive coordinator is over. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Pittsburgh Steelers defensive assistant Brian Flores is accepting the Vikings defensive coordinator position.
The Vikings had been searching for a defensive coordinator since relieving Ed Donatell of his duties four days after the season ended. They interviewed five candidates: Ryan Nielsen (Falcons) and Ejiro Evero (Panthers) accepted jobs elsewhere, Sean Desai pulled his name out and Mike Pettine is currently on the staff.
They patiently waited to hire Flores because they wanted to interview Evero, someone whom both Kevin O’Connell and Kwesi Adofo-Mensah have worked with in the past.
Flores will bring a very aggressive defense to Minnesota and will likely mean a philosophy shift for the team when it comes to personnel, especially at cornerback.
We will discuss the hire more and what to expect scheme-wise in the coming days here on Vikings Wire.
