It always seems to come as a shock when the Cincinnati Bengals want to do things their way by simply doing right by someone they value.

For example, the Bengals have long made it known they want to do right by Andy Dalton on his (potential) way out the door.

And wanting to do right by Joe Burrow would explain why the team hasn’t just up and announced the pick.

Let’s check in on a report from ESPN’s Dianna Russini: “Even though everyone including Joe Burrow can connect the dots, sources say the Bengals want to wait until they are on the clock to make it official with Burrow. Cincy wants to give the #1 overall pick that moment to get the call from the team on draft night.”

That’s so Bengals — in a good way.

Skeptics might throw out the idea the Bengals haven’t announced the pick to help the NFL keep intrigue going for the start of the draft.

But there are other things at work here — like keeping a special moment special for the draft’s top pick as he realizes a dream and also gets to go play for his hometown team.
