The Cincinnati Bengals made it known the front office isn’t worried about getting Joe Burrow’s rookie deal done.
Burrow’s name wasn’t among those rookies who got deals from the Bengals on Tuesday though, the set date for rookies to arrive at Paul Brown Stadium, do some check-ins and other items, including a coronavirus test.
But not to worry. In his latest, Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com wrote that the Bengals are currently working on the deal and that “no hiccups have been heard.”
That falls right in line with the prior report about the front office being more than comfortable with working within the framework of recent No. 1 contracts given to Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray.
A slight delay wasn’t totally unexpected on the Burrow front. The rookie wage scale eliminates most issues in getting rookies signed to contracts, but there are certain small details to iron out — and Burrow’s going to obviously make more than any other player in his class.
There isn’t a major rush either. The NFL continues to work out the details of the when and how for training camps. It’s set to start at the end of the month, but details like actual roster size have already encouraged a few teams to delay the arrival of rookies since there won’t be preseason games to prep for anyway.
