The Chicago Bears could be moving one of the top players available at the 2023 NFL trade deadline and he could be of interest to the Buffalo Bills.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson has requested a trade ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.
Johnson is on the final year of his rookie deal and will be a free agent at the end of the season. It appears Chicago and Johnson will not be coming to terms on an extension, so he looks like he will potentially be moving on with the Bears at a 2-6 record.
The 24-year-old cornerback was drafted in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft. In 45 career games, Johnson has 143 tackles, including four for loss, with three interceptions and three forced fumbles. Pro Football Focus grades him as an 84.4 overall so far this season, the football analytics outlet’s third-best mark for any cornerback in the league.
In terms of the Bills, cornerback is amongst their top positions that need addressing.
Buffalo lost All-Pro Tre’Davious White (Achilles) for the season. Now the team seems to have given up on former first-round pick Kaiir Elam who might be traded himself. But because of the Elam situation, Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane might need three teams to tango in order to make a deal–or would have to find a way for Chicago to take Elam.
