Report: Bears not expected to land Teddy Bridgewater, eyeing other QB options

The Bears have been quite active in the QB market on Monday, looking at free agents and trade targets, including Andy Dalton and Nick Foles.

The Chicago Bears have been quite active in the quarterback market on Monday, looking at free agents and trade targets.

The first free agent rumor that popped up regarded the Bears having contract discussions with Teddy Bridgewater, which would have indicated that Chicago would be moving on from Mitchell Trubisky entirely.

But things have changed over the last couple of hours. According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Bears aren’t expected to land Bridgewater. But they are in fact exploring the veteran quarterback market.

If the Bears were to target a free agent quarterback, players like Marcus Mariota, Case Keenum and Jameis Winston could be names to watch.

But it’s not just free agent quarterbacks the Bears are reportedly interested in. According to several insiders, the Bears have reached out to the Bengals and Jaguars about potential trades for Andy Dalton or Nick Foles.

Signing someone like a Mariota or Winston or trading for Dalton or Foles wouldn’t necessarily signal the end of the Trubisky era in Chicago. They’d provide veteran competition while also serving as insurance should Trubisky’s struggles continue into his fourth season.

One thing has become abundantly clear: The Bears aren’t as committed to Trubisky as they’d let on.
