It’s shaping up to be an offseason of change for the Chicago Bears, where the expectation is that Matt Nagy will be relieved of his head coaching duties at season’s end. But that might not be the only change.
There have been reports that the Bears could be considering a front office restructure, which could include Ted Phillips stepping away from football operations.
A new report has indicated that general manager Ryan Pace could be out as general manager, as NBC Sports Chicago’s Adam Hoge has reported that the Bears are exploring GM candidates to replace Pace.
“With head coach Matt Nagy seemingly on his way out, the Chicago Bears have also begun to do their homework on potential general manager replacements for Ryan Pace, according to multiple league sources. That homework has included gauging back-channel interest from at least one college scouting director employed by another club, which isn’t uncommon practice when contemplating a major change.”
Hoge was quick to point out that doesn’t necessarily mean a GM change is close or will ultimately wind up happening, as one source told Hoge that “the organization is likely contemplating many different options right now.”
But even if Pace is out as the Bears GM, that doesn’t mean he’s done with the organization entirely, per those restructuring reports. Chicago could find him a new position within the organization.
The thing is, we don’t know how this will all pan out. But with just four games left this season, we’re closer to finding out how this all plays out.
