Report: 5-star prospect all in on Florida rebuild, recruiting in-state talent

Kamari Wilson was sold on Billy Napier after meeting him, and the five-star safety is looking to bring more elite talent to Florida.

Billy Napier got his first major win as Florida’s head coach when he landed five-star safety Kamari Wilson during the early signing period. During a Thursday practice for the Under Armour All-America Game, Wilson mentioned that he’d been doing some recruiting of his own, according to On3’s report.

“Oh yeah, I’m recruiting everybody,” he said. “Go ahead and crystal ball Shemar Stewart ‘cause I’m going to get him. Crystal ball Perk too; I’m going to get him. Who else? It’s a bunch of other guys. I’m getting a commit soon. They finna hit the transfer portal.”

Whether it’s talk or not, it can’t hurt the Gators to have an elite safety such as Wilson loudly proclaiming that Florida is the place to be “if you want to come and be great and build your own legacy.” Wilson is all in on his new team and his new coach thanks to the way that Napier and company recruited him.

“I feel like Florida has a great plan for me when I came down there for the official visit,” Wilson said. “They got Corey Raymond, and they got coach PC. And they showed me how I’ll be used, and it fits me … I’m from Florida, and my dream school is Florida, so I had to make that decision.”

Wilson also mentioned being impressed by Napier when he “cleared his schedule just to go see my mom” at Sam’s Club. The impromptu meeting helped solidify Wilson’s decision, and it has him coming to Gainesville with “100% confidence” that Napier will turn things around.

The IMG Academy product plans on reclaiming the title of “DBU” at Florida with the help of defensive backs coach Corey Raymond. He’ll enroll at UF in January after finishing up with the All-America Game.
