The bad news keeps coming for the 49ers’ receiving corps. NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo on Monday reported Jalen Hurd will undergo an MRI on his knee after a fall in Sunday’s practice. The team fears a torn ACL for the second-year wide receiver. His MRI is scheduled for Monday.
A major knee injury like that would sideline Hurd for the season — forcing him out of action for the second consecutive year. He missed all of his rookie campaign in 2019 with a stress fracture in his back that he suffered in the lead up to Week 2 of the preseason.
Hurd was easing into action in this year’s training camp and working with a trainer on a side field when he fell awkwardly according to reporters on site. He stayed down for awhile before walking off the field under his own power.
Hurd was expected to play a versatile role in San Francisco’s offense after they drafted him in the third round of last year’s draft.
This is the third injury to a 49ers wide receiver this offseason. Deebo Samuel suffered a Jones fracture in his foot and Richie James Jr. broke his hand. Free agent signee Travis Benjamin also opted out.
