The Oklahoma Sooners made a statement with their blowout win over the West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday.
After a pair of mistake-filled losses, the Sooners played as clean as they have all season. After West Virginia scored on their opening drive, the Sooners went on a 59-13 run over the final 56 minutes of the contest.
It was as impressive as the Sooners have looked in the Brent Venables era. After the way the game played out in Morgantown last year in addition to the last two weeks, it was an impressive response from a team that looked on the ropes.
Dillon Gabriel and Drake Stoops were phenomenal on career days for each guy. Gavin Sawchuk also set a career-high in rushing yards, going over the century mark for the second straight week.
Defensively, the Sooners continued to show off in goal-to-go situations, coming up with another goal-line stand after West Virginia had it first and goal from the three.
The Sooners are building something in Norman. Though not every result has gone the way they would have hoped, there are strong indications that this program is heading in a strong direction.
