It didn’t even take a half of a football before New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore grabbed his first interception.
Gilmore pulled the interception down at the beginning of the second quarter in New England’s Week 1 matchup against the Miami Dolphins. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year was simply stronger than Dolphins’ Preston Willams on the play. Williams endured some contact from Gilmore and lost his footing.
The Patriots’ defense shut down Miami’s first three drives and Gilmore continued on from his remarkable 2019 season. As long as Gilmore remains on the field, the Patriots’ defense will sit among the league’s top units.
2nd time in this game (that I've noticed) where Stephon Gilmore has been stronger than the receiver at the top of the route. This time, Preston Williams loses his footing and it's an easy pick for Gilmore. #Patriots pic.twitter.com/lVuZJZAEwI
