Redskins’ updated picks for 2020 NFL Draft

The Redskins have a very prominent pick in the first round, but past trades have depleted their mid-to-late round options for April’s draft.

The Washington Redskins finished the 2019 season with a 3-13 record and a fourth consecutive season without a trip to the playoffs. Having such a terrible season comes with some upside, however, as the Redskins have been given the No. 2 overall draft pick in 2020, where they will likely draft a generational talent in Chase Young.

Washington had better hope they hit the lottery with Young because their Montez Sweat trade in 2019 left them without a second-round pick this year, and it’s unknown what the compensatory picks are going to look like for the Redskins.

Here’s when Washington is scheduled to pick in April’s draft:

  • Round One: Own Pick (No. 2)

  • Round Two: None

  • Round Three: Own Pick

  • Round Four: Own Pick

  • Round Five: Own Pick

  • Round Six: None

  • Round Seven: Own Pick

  • Round Seven: Via Denver Broncos

Aside from dealing away their second-round pick for Sweat, the Redskins also gave up their sixth-round pick as a part of the Case Keenum trade with the Broncos last season. They received a seventh-round pick in return.

On top of the talent received in the draft, the Redskins are expected to have a decent amount of cap space, and that number could increase by nearly $40 million should they make a few pertinent roster decisions over the next few months. With Ron Rivera now at the helm in Washington, it will be interesting to see what he does in order to keep the wheels of change in motion.
