Redskins have one of the best screen games in the NFL

The Redskins are one of the NFL’s best in an interesting area.

Statistically speaking, the Washington Redskins do pretty well on screen plays.

So says a few numbers shared by ESPN’s NFL Matchup in the tweet above, which paints the Redskins as the seventh-best team in this regard.

Averaging 8.3 yards per play of a certain type isn’t anything to turn the nose up at. And that’s especially the case here as the struggling Redskins head into a matchup with a tough New York Jets defense while attempting to make life easier on rookie passer Dwayne Haskins.

While Haskins won’t have a player like Chris Thompson on the field over the weekend, the hope is Derrius Guice can solve some of these versatility issues out of the backfield.

Screens to wideouts won’t hurt either against an aggressive defense like the Jets, though the Redskins will miss having a burner like Paul Richardson on the field.

As this battle unfolds over the weekend, keep the screen play in mind — offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell probably won’t hesitate to take a stab at these rather consistently.
