The Washington Redskins were destined to be the subject of endless speculation once it became clear the Cincinnati Bengals would take Joe Burrow at No. 1 in the 2020 NFL draft.
And mock drafts sure aren’t helping.
A new mock from NFL.com’s Chad Reuter has the Redskins going with Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa:
“As I mentioned up top, we’ve seen this story before — new coach wants his own QB in the building despite the franchise spending a first-round pick on the position a year earlier (SEE: Cardinals in 2019). Tua’s talent is certainly worthy of this pick, and it would be easy to see Ron Rivera wanting this young man in the building, even if it means parting with the No. 15 overall pick from a year ago, Dwayne Haskins.”
The Redskins themselves haven’t helped combat this much yet, not with Ron Rivera noting there would be a competition. Even if it’s due diligence, one could see why it opens the door for speculation.
Even so, it’s hard to imagine the Redskins throw in the towel on an investment like Dwayne Haskins so early — and especially for a prospect in Tagovailoa with a concerning injury history.
More likely the Redskins play it safe and grab Chase Young or sell the pick to the highest bidder. If it’s the latter, these mocks actually help things.
