The day has finally come. This may as well be Christmas morning for football fans — a live sporting event that is set to quench the thirst of a sports nation put on hold. The 2020 NFL Draft is here, and in mere hours, the clock will begin ticking down on the first pick.
Pick 1 and Pick 2 are expected to be chalk, with the Cincinnati Bengals and Washington Redskins likely to take the top talent on the board, QB Joe Burrow and DE Chase Young, respectively. But after that, it’s anyone’s guess as to what’s going to happen. There are rumors swirling around the league about potential trades from 5 to 3, or 16 to 7, or you name it to who wants to take a guess. For the Redskins, Thursday will likely be calm, but celebratory, as the franchise heralds an impressive talent that will be packing his bags and moving to the District. On Friday is when the fun really begins in Washington. So who will the Redskins look to take when their name is on the clock? We did one final mock draft on The Draft Network before the action begins, and this is who we came away with:
Round 1 — Pick 2: DE Chase Young (Ohio State)
Trade rumors shmade rumors. Washington is taking Chase Young with the No. 2 pick. I can’t wait to stop arguing about this.
Round 3 — Pick 66: TE Cole Kmet — (Notre Dame)
It will be a massive steal if Kmet is still available to take in the third round for the Redskins, but he was in our mock draft, so we took him and ran. Kmet is easily the best TE prospect in this draft class, and a lot of people have penciled him in to go somewhere in the second round. If Washington can make it out of Friday with Chase Young and Cole Kmet on their roster, everything else will be icing on the cake.
Round 4 — Pick 108: WR Van Jefferson — (Florida)
Another player who seemed to have slipped past most common projections in our mock draft, Jefferson is one of the better WR prospects in this draft class, and he could immediately slot in as a viable option on the Redskins offense.
Round 4 — Pick 142: OT Hakeem Adaniji — (Kansas)
Adaniji is a big prospect who moved from right tackle to left tackle and back again in college, giving the Redskins a player who can be versatile and fit in where need be.
Round 5 — Pick 162: LB Shaquille Quarterman — (Miami)
Quarterman reminds me a lot of Holcomb coming out of the draft, as he has a strong nose for the football and seems to find his way into the play every down. Adding him to the LB rotation in Washington would be a great look for the Redskins.
Round 7 — Pick 216: DB Myles Bryant — (Washington)
Bryant is a player who can move throughout the secondary and he would provide the Redskins with some nice depth at the nickel position, or potentially backing up Sean Davis at free safety.
Round 7 — Pick 229: WR Binjimen Victor — (Ohio State)
Maybe not the Ohio State receiver that everyone in Washington wanted, but a Buckeye who can get the job done nonetheless.
