Redskins could shut down Derrius Guice regardless of injury severity

Derrius Guice’s season could be over.

The Washington Redskins are understandably going to take a cautious approach to the latest Derrius Guice injury.

Guice left Sunday’s game with a knee injury and the initial belief is he only suffered an MCL sprain.

But according to Sam Fortier of the Washington Post, the Redskins might shut Guice down regardless:

“But at a minimum, Guice will miss Sunday’s game, and Callahan said the Redskins haven’t ruled out shutting him down for the final two games of the season, too, no matter the severity of the injury.”

Better safe than sorry at this point, right? Guice had a long road back from injury after his rookie season was lost. The recovery there featured multiple operations.

The timing of this one couldn’t be worse with Washington trying to make sure Dwayne Haskins has the best possible learning environment. But with only a handful of games left, even that isn’t worth risking Guice’s long-term health while he tries to power through an injury.
