Redskins announce hiring of Scott Turner and Nate Kaczor

Scott Turner is officially a member of the Redskins.

The Washington Redskins made the hiring of Scott Turner as offensive coordinator official Wednesday alongside the news Ron Rivera would retain Nate Kaczor as special teams coordinator.

Turner comes over from Carolina and enters his ninth season after serving in varied roles with three different teams, including two stops with Carolina.

The official release offered up this intriguing nugget:

Serving as Carolina’s quarterbacks coach in 2018, Turner helped quarterback Cam Newton post a 67.9 completion percentage, the highest of any player in Panthers’ history, despite playing through injury and missing the final two games. Newton set a franchise record by throwing for at least two touchdown passes in 11 consecutive games, while his 94.2 passer rating was third-best in franchise history.

Turner now comes over to Washington and will play a critical role in Dwayne Haskins’ development as a pro. He’ll also presumably have a say in whether the team uses free agency or the draft to go after other players at the position.
