The Colorado women’s basketball team keeps finding new ways to prove it’s one of the best teams in the country. Opposing teams have had to account for the lightning-quick first step of point guard Jaylyn Sherrod and the dominant inside game of Aaronette Vonleh, but the Buffs can also hurt you with several other great players.
For the second game in a row, a new face stepped up when needed as forward Quay Miller was key in Colorado’s 84-69 win at SMU on Saturday night. Miller isn’t new to the limelight by any stretch, but she had gotten off to a slow start to the new year. Against the Mustangs, however, she recorded a season-high 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her second-straight double-double. Vonleh also continued her dominant start to the year by pacing the Buffs with 25 points, and Sherrod chipped in 18.
SMU kept it close in the first half with strong 3-point shooting, but Colorado ended the second quarter with a 7-0 run to pull away.
SMU’s Tiara Young erupted for 30 points and Chantae Embry also pitched in 14.
Up next, Colorado will travel to the U.S. Virgin Islands to compete in the Paradise Jam Classic. The Buffs are set to face the 1-1 Cincinnati Bearcats, who are playing their first season in the Big 12, on Thursday at 11 a.m. MT (ESPN3).
