Reacting to the Boston Celtics’ lack of urgency vs. the Philadelphia 76ers

Boston couldn’t overcome their lack of concern against a good team like the 76ers.

The Boston Celtics fell short in their first game of the NBA’s 2023-24 season against the Philadelphia 76ers, losing 106-103. Despite a late comeback attempt, the Celtics lacked urgency throughout the game. Offensively, they were stagnant and lacked the same fluidity they had shown in previous games, with lots of minor but impactful mistakes. They failed to hit the paint, make multiple passes, and create good shots.

Defensively, the Celtics struggled with boxing out and preventing offensive rebounds. It was only towards the end of the game that they started playing with a sense of urgency, but by then it was too late. The Celtics had a chance to tie the game with a last-second shot that fell short, and overall, they took too long to get going and couldn’t overcome their lack of concern against a good team like the 76ers.

The hosts of NBC Sports Boston Eddie House, Brian Scalabrine and Drew Carter joined Tom Giles to react to the loss on “Celtics Postgame Live” after the dust settled.
