Rays pitcher used a photo of Martin Shkreli so he could get angry before games

Well, that’s one way to get motivated.

Notorious Pharma bro Martin Shkreli is trending across social media today because of a truly eyebrow raising story in Elle magazine about his uh, relationship, with former Bloomberg reporter Christie Smythe. The story, which goes into how Smythe upended her entire life because she fell in love with the slimy little price gouger, has reminded people of just how awful a human Shkreli actually is.

Shkreli, for reference, was sentenced to seven years in prison for fraud in 2018. He’s most well known for his price hike of the drug Daraprim.  Daraprim, which can be a life saving drug, is used to treat parasitic infections in patients with compromised immune systems. Under Shkreli, the drug went from $13.50 to $750 per pill overnight.

Anyone with a moral center should get enraged just thinking about it. Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Tyler Glasnow was able to channel that anger into something productive. According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan,  Glasnow used to look at a picture of Shkreli before his starts, just to feel that white rage boil inside of him.

Athletes have all kinds of ways to motivate themselves. Firing yourself up by looking at Shkreli’s smug little face till you’re consumed with laser focused hatred is certainly not the weirdest.
