Brett Phillips is one fast man.
During Monday’s game between the Tampa Bay Rays and Baltimore Orioles, Phillips had one of the closest inside-the-park home runs you’ll ever see thanks to his stunning speed on the base paths. In the bottom of the sixth, Phillips clobbered the ball to left center field, splitting the Orioles outfielders and bouncing off the bottom of the wall.
Thanks to the ball’s ridiculous hang time and the fortuitous bounce off the wall, Phillips was well on his way to third by the time the Orioles recovered the ball. From there, Phillips’ speed carried him the rest of the way as Baltimore relayed the ball into the infield for the tag at home, which he beat in a bang-bang play at home plate.
Here’s how the incredible sequence of events went down.

Had the throw to home been a bit more in the direction of Phillips on the base path, there’s a real possibility the Orioles could have gotten him out. Instead, full props to Phillips here for his blistering speed around the bases to leg out an inside-the-park home run on pure skill, without any errors or mishaps on Baltimore’s side.
Just an incredibly well-executed and well-run at bat by Phillips.
