The Baltimore Ravens selected Boston College wide receiver Zay Flowers with the 22nd overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft. The college standout was regarded as one of the best pass catchers in his draft class, and is an incredible route runner with the ability to play at all three levels of the field.
When ranking his top 2023 Offensive Rookie of the Year candidates, Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports put Flowers in the conversation, placing him inside the top five at No. 5. When explaining why, Trapasso mentioned how Flowers has a high floor, and plays with physicality while also winning with his “sharp” route running.
“While Flowers isn’t special in any one area, he’s high floor across the board. Beating press with feet and physicality, sharp route running, enough vertical juice to threaten defenses deep, and he plays bigger than his small size because of strong hands…If Baltimore suddenly is consistently effective through the air, Flowers will be a big reason why and, rightfully, get plenty of the credit for the turnaround. “
