With the No. 71 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens took Texas A&M DT Justin Madubuike. The Ravens didn’t start the night with that pick, getting it in a trade with the New England Patriots by moving down from No. 60 in the second round.
The Ravens spent their offseason before the draft revamping their defensive line. They added defensive end Calais Campbell via a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars and signed former Denver Broncos defensive lineman Derek Wolfe. Baltimore also brought back defensive tackle Justin Ellis and defensive end Jihad Ward.
But though their current defensive line is stout, most of those players are only signed through the 2021 season, leaving them a lack of depth and eventual replacements. Madubuike joins 2019 fifth-round pick Daylon Mack as the next wave of guys for the future.
But don’t look at Madubuike as just a depth piece; he was highly productive at Texas A&M. A little undersized, Madubuike is strong and quick, knowing how to use leverage to his advantage to get penetration.
