The NFL’s 2022 free agency period is slated to get under way and Baltimore Ravens defensive lineman Calais Campbell is already looking forward to the start of the frenzy. It’s likely that the Ravens would welcome the 35-year-old Campbell back with open arms, but in terms of a business standpoint the veteran probably wants to see what kind of offers he can get on the open market.
Baltimore traded for Campbell before the 2020 season, and he’s been a really great player on the field and in the locker room for the team. If the Ravens don’t re-sign Campbell, then they will need to find someone to replace his leadership and production, which isn’t always an easy thing to do. Campbell’s tweet shows how ready he is for free agency to begin.

Ravens safety Tony Jefferson replied to Campbell’s tweet, showing that he wants the defensive lineman back in purple and black. Jefferson has been using his recruiting skills on twitter since the Super Bowl ended trying to get players to join him on defense. If Campbell re-signs, it will be a big boost to a defensive unit that is getting multiple players back from injury such as Marcus Peters.

This free agency period is crucial for the Baltimore if they want to keep their Super Bowl window intact with quarterback Lamar Jackson still on his rookie deal. They could look to address multiple key needs in the coming days and weeks, including the defensive line. On that front, Campbell would be a great start.
