Quarterback mania has struck both Kansas City and Baltimore as they have two rising stars in the National Football League.
As Ravens QB Lamar Jackson earned league MVP during his second season in the league, many can’t help but notice the similar path to Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, who achieved that same feat in 2018. Both teams quarterbacked by Mahomes and Jackson have also remained connected due to their success in the AFC conference. It has all come to an ongoing comparison between the two players as they’ve progressed in their careers.
Jackson recently appeared on Bleacher Report’s “Take It There” show with Taylor Rooks and she asked him about the ongoing debates that take place about him and Mahomes. Jackson expressed annoyance over the constant comparisons to Mahomes.
“Yeah, that’s annoying,” Jackson said. “We play football. Two different teams. Ain’t got nothing to do with each other. Like, we just play football. That’s it.”
Jackson is right in the sense that he and Mahomes are different players, their playstyles are only mildly similar. But I think he might be dismissing some of the reasons why people are comparing them, perhaps out of frustration. As for when the comparisons between the two NFL stars could end, Jackson isn’t hopeful that they’ll ever end.
“Nah, but I just wanted to say that,” Jackson said, as he let out a chuckle.
So long as the spotlight is on Mahomes, Jackson and their respective teams, the comparisons and debate will persist. It’s something that Jackson will have to get used to, especially if his career path continues to follow that of Mahomes.
