The Baltimore Ravens have gone through a lot of injuries during the 2021 season so far, especially in their secondary. Baltimore is currently playing without Marcus Peters, Chris Westry and potentially others who have gone down with ailments, but they did get one player back recently who should help their defensive back unit in a big way moving forward in cornerback Jimmy Smith.
When Ravens head coach John Harbaugh was asked about what having Smith back means for the secondary, he explained that he felt bad for the veteran for having to deal with his injury, but is happy that he’s healthy now.
“Just very valuable. It’s good to have him healthy. I felt bad for him [for] missing all the time in training camp. It was a really slow type of an injury, unfortunately, as it turned out. But he played [and] didn’t miss a beat. [He] got out there, all that experience paid off, and we’re going to need him this week. We’ve got a similar type of situation with tight ends and big receivers, so he’ll be a big part of the gameplan.”
With Peters and Westry both on injured reserve and both Anthony Averett and DeShon Elliott potentially missing time with injuries, Smith will have a big part to play in Baltimore’s upcoming games. His veteran experience should help in a huge way, and hopefully he’s able to make a big impact.
