The Baltimore Ravens made a key coaching change in the early parts of the 2023 offseason, parting ways with now-former offensive coordinator Greg Roman and hiring Georgia offensive coordinator Todd Monken in his place. There is plenty to be excited about with Baltimore’s new offense with Monken at the helm, especially for quarterback Lamar Jackson.
Jackson is expected to get much more freedom under Monken than he was ever allowed under Roman. Ravens head coach John Harbaugh was asked about giving Jackson more control of the offense, and said he’s “excited” for the change, as is the quarterback himself.
“Yes, it is the evolution, and it’s something that he [Lamar Jackson] … We’ve been in that world before, but not to this degree. To me, the offense starts in that world more than it did before, and I’m excited about that, [and] I know Lamar is excited about that. He and I have had conversations about it. Obviously, [offensive coordinator] Todd [Monken] is right in there with [quarterbacks coach] Tee [Martin] coaching the offense to the quarterbacks; that’s been really good. We’ve had a lot of one-on-one sessions, in terms of just how we’re going to operate and how the quarterbacks need to operate. I think you saw today [that] the communication is probably better than what you saw last week, so we’ve just got to keep building on that.”
