The Baltimore Ravens haven’t even hit the field for warm ups and they have an injury issue. The Ravens announced they’ve added cornerback Jimmy Smith to the injury report with back spasms, making him questionable for today against the Cleveland Browns.
Smith has seen the injury report a fair bit over his career. Over nine seasons in the NFL prior to today, Smith has missed a total of 37 games. He missed seven games last season after suffering a knee injury on the first series of the first game. While technically not a starter, Smith’s newly questionable status for Week 1 could change what defensive coordinator Don Martindale had planned for this week.
Throughout training camp, Smith had been a floater in the secondary. Primarily taking on tight ends, it’s expected Smith would be the primary matchup with new Browns tight end Austin Hooper. But with Smith potentially not in the lineup today, those duties could fall to a linebacker or rookie safety.
