This was a game where the Sixers were welcoming in superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis and they had to do so while missing Embiid and Richardson again. Philadelphia was starting a rookie in Matisse Thybulle and they had moved Shake Milton into the starting lineup as well. This seemed like a sure loss, but Simmons had 28 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, and four steals to lead Philadelphia to a rather shocking 108-91 win over the Lakers.
