1. 2011
Not surprisingly the 2011 Badgers led by college and NFL legend Russell Wilson are the No. 1 team on this list.
Talk about NFL talent all over the field, Bielema’s team was led by Wilson, Ball, White, Toon, Abbrederis, Rick Wagner, Travis Frederick, Kevin Zeitler, Chris Borland and Beau Allen.
Their two losses came in back-to-back weeks at No. 15 Michigan State when quarterback Kirk Cousins shocked the Badgers with a last-second hail mary touchdown and then at Ohio State.
Aside from those losses and their 45-38 Rose Bowl defeat to No. 6 Oregon, the Badgers won the rest of their games by an average of 32 points and had little trouble winning the Big Ten.
Their SRS ranks third in the program’s history since 2000 behind 2019 and 2017 respectively, both seasons which obviously saw the Badgers lose to the Buckeyes in the conference championship.
Finally, they ranked No. 6 in the nation in points-per-game and No. 13 in points-allowed-per-game and finished the season ranked No. 10 in the AP Poll.
Until a Wisconsin team is able to break through and win the conference or win a Rose Bowl this team will stay on top.
Maybe that time will come soon, though, as Chryst has four-star quarterback Graham Mertz waiting to take over after Jack Coan finishes his senior season.
