Ranking the three most likely “trap games” on Wisconsin football’s 2020 schedule

Ranking the three most likely traps to avoid on the 2020 Badger football schedule

Dec 21, 2019; New Orleans, Louisiana, USA; Appalachian State Mountaineers offensive linemen Ryan Neuzil (58) and Noah Hannon (60) carry off the New Orleans Bowl trophy after their game against the UAB Blazers at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Appalachian State won 31-17.

2. Wisconsin vs. Appalachian State — Week 3 — 9/19/20

I know what you may be thinking. The Appalachian State Mountaineers? That does not sound like a name I should be afraid of in a home game at Camp Randall. The position of spoiler is one that the Mountaineers know well. App State is in fact one of the best non-power five football programs in the country. This team has gone a combined 24-3 over the past two seasons and has won back-to-back New Orleans Bowl games. Two years ago in week one, App State pushed No. 12 Penn State to the brink on the road before losing in overtime. This past season, the Mountaineers beat South Carolina and North Carolina on the road before ending the year as a top-20 team. You get the point. This program is legit. Losing their long-time Head Coach Scott Satterfield to Louisville and then 2019 Head Coach Eliah Drinkwitz to Missouri has not slowed the train that first-year Head Coach Shawn Clark inherits.

The game also has the look-ahead feature that Illinois had last season. Wisconsin should enter this game at 2-0 barring a collapse against Indiana in week one. Looming in their fourth game of the year is a road test at Michigan, but you had better believe UW will have to bring their best against a program that simply wins.
