Here is Texas’s No. 5 rival in football

Arkansas Razorbacks

The main reason they are one of the Longhorn’s top rivals: Before Arkansas joined the SEC, Texas was arguably the Razorback’s biggest rival. Now that the Longhorns are in the SEC, expect this rivalry to ramp up. For Texas fans, this rivalry is more for the people born before 1980, and Longhorn fans part of Generation X and the Baby Boomers generation appreciate this rivalry and put more significance on it than Texas fans under the age of 40.

History between these two football programs: The first game between these two schools goes back to 1894. Arkansas didn’t score a point against Texas until the fifth time they played and only scored six points through their the first ten times they played one another. The Longhorns also won the first 14 games against the Razorbacks as well. However, from 1933 to 1938, Arkansas would win five out of six against Texas.

Then Texas would win 12 straight from 1939 to 1950 and then both schools won eight games each between 1951 to 1966. The Longhorns would then regain control of the rivalry between the years of 1967 through 1985. However, Arkansas has a slight edge in wins over Texas since.

Distance between these two higher institutions of higher learning: Approximately, 496 miles separates the University of Arkansas and the University of Texas at Austin. By car, it is just under an eight-hour drive without traffic and no stopping.

Most memorable game in this rivalry: The 1969 matchup against Arkansas was nicknamed by some as the Game of the Century. The game took place in Fayetteville between #1 Texas and #2 Arkansas. The Longhorns would win by only one point with the final score being 15-14 and it allowed eventually, Texas to claim the 1969 national title.

The last game they played one another and their next scheduled game: In 2021, Texas traveled to Arkansas and the Razorbacks defeated the Longhorns by a final score of 40-21. These two teams will play one another in conference play on November 16 at Arkansas for a noon kickoff.
