Where would you rank the Nebraska Cornhuskers offense this upcoming season? Are they better or worse than a season ago?
It is hard to argue that they aren’t better with the moves they made in the transfer portal. Let’s look at how one of our colleagues views the Huskers.
According to Spartans Wire, the Nebraska offense ranks as the No. 6 unit in the Big Ten.
No. 6 Offense: Nebraska Cornhuskers
What Spartan Wire Says…
Key Players: Casey Thompson, Gabe Ervin, Oliver Martin
Analysis: Nebraska will have to deal with the loss of Adrian Martinez but Texas transfer Casey Thompson will aid in that process. Gabe Ervin will be strong in the backfield for the Huskers as Scott Frost looks to extend his tenure in Lincoln.
What We Say…
The offense is going to look completely different in 2022 under [autotag]Scott Frost[/autotag]. For starters, there is a new offensive coordinator. Mark Whipple left Pittsburgh where he turned quarterback Kenny Pickett into a Heisman Trophy finalist and a first-round pick in the NFL draft. Not only did Pickett have a huge season but wide receiver Jordan Addison won the Biletnikoff Award given to the nation’s best wide receiver.
Factor in a new passer in Casey Thompson, who transferred from the Texas Longhorns. The team added former LSU Tigers wide receiver Trey Palmer to the mix, following his former position coach Mickey Joseph. These two could form quite a dynamic duo if all goes to plan. Palmer was more of a return specialist but showed last season in Baton Rouge that he can be an offensive weapon.
Getting back to Thompson, he gives the Huskers’ offense a legit throwing dynamic to the squad. He can run when needed, but buying time in the pocket is more his style and Thompson looks to move the ball downfield. Adrian Martinez was more of a dual-threat but Thompson has the better touch when slinging the ball around.
All in all, the Huskers’ offense should be more dynamic this upcoming season because of the additions.
