Ranking every NFL team by salary cap space after the 2022 Draft

Who has the most cash leftover to throw at remaining free agents?

Most of the roster movement in the 2022 NFL offseason is over. Marquee free agents have mostly re-signed with their home teams or inked deals with new ones. This spring’s draft dropped 262 rookie prospects and hundreds more undrafted free agent onto dense preseason rosters.

There’s still work to be done, however. Several former All-Pros and Pro Bowlers remain available on the open market. 22 teams have more than $10 million left to spend this summer before brushing up against the league’s salary cap. Recently, we’ve seen players like DeVondre Campbell, Casey Hayward, Ndamukong Suh, and Jamie Collins sign deals in May or later before earning starting roles on playoff teams. There are several veterans who could have similar impacts still waiting for the right offer.

That means clubs like the Panthers, Browns, and Texans still have plenty of chances to add talent to their rosters. Others like the Patriots, Cardinals, and 49ers have limited means to match them.

Here’s the amount of space each franchise has against 2022’s salary cap of $208.2 million following this spring’s draft. All numbers here are provided by the excellent Over the Cap, which is a wonderful resource for all things contract-related in the NFL. Dead cap space is a measure of the salary cap costs dedicated to players who are no longer on the roster.
