It was an interesting week in the Big Ten, with most of the East teams winning (Michigan State was the sole loss) and most of the West struggling.
We saw Northwestern lose to an FCS team in Southern Illinois, Purdue lose at Syracuse, while it took OT for Indiana to survive Western Kentucky. Meanwhile, Michigan football, Penn State, and Ohio State all rolled, impressively.
Of course, their success was due in large part to quarterback play. The Wolverines broke in J.J. McCarthy for his second start, C.J. Stroud looked the part of Heisman contender, and even in the loss, Payton Thorne proved he’s an absolute gamer with some amazing resiliency and big-time throws when the Spartans were trying to not get embarrassed on national television.
