First, they beat Tennessee Tech. Then they beat West Virginia and Houston on the road. When the Kansas Jayhawks returned home, a similarly 3-0 Duke Blue Devils team awaited.

ESPN’s College GameDay opted not to come to Lawrence for the match-up in what seemed like a mistake at the time and now certainly appears to be the case. Because on Saturday, in front of just the second sellout crowd at David Booth Memorial Stadium in 13 years, the Kansas Jayhawks moved to 4-0 with a thrilling 35-28 victory.

In the process, quarterback Jalon Daniels officially kicked off his Heisman Trophy campaign. The defense proved successful on 10 of 15 third-down chances. The running backs looked as slippery as any in the Big 12.

Kansas has passed every test thrown its way so far this season. Maybe it’s the top of the mountain for the Jayhawks. Maybe it’s the start of something bigger. Either way, when all of college football is in agreement, you know it’s time to take it seriously.
