The Rams won’t have much time to dwell on Sunday’s lopsided loss to the Cardinals. They have a quick turnaround with the Seahawks on deck this Thursday night. And to condense the schedule even more, they’ll be on the road for this prime-time matchup in a few days.
Jalen Ramsey isn’t a fan of Thursday night games and never has been, regardless of whether the team is coming off a win or loss. He understands why the NFL has teams playing on a short week, but he doesn’t enjoy playing on Thursday night.
“No, I never like the quick turnaround coming off a win, loss, whatever. I’m not a fan of Thursday night games, but it is what it is,” he said after the game. “It’s good for TV, I guess. It’s good for ratings, it’s good for the league, so it is what it is. We’ve got to kind of say ‘F’ this game we’ve got a game in three days, four days, and it’s an important game and another division game so we’ve got to put our focus there real quick.”
Matthew Stafford wasn’t directly asked whether he likes Thursday night games or not, but he did look on the bright side of having such a condensed week of preparation following Sunday’s loss.
He won’t have the chance to dwell on this disappointing performance because he has to start preparing for the Seahawks almost immediately.
“The good thing is, we play again on Thursday so I won’t have to sit and think about this for too long. It’ll be a big challenge for us going to Seattle here in a couple days,” he said.
Moving on from a loss like the 17-point defeat the Rams suffered is easier on a short week, Stafford said.
“It’s easy to do when you have to turn the page so quickly,” he added. “The next thing I’m going to be looking at is – I’ll finish looking at this one and then I’ll be looking at Seattle as quickly as possible. I haven’t played them as much as a lot of the guys in this locker room have played them, so I’ll have some homework to do and make sure I’m up to speed, ready to go come Thursday.”
The Rams will have three days to practice before kickoff on Thursday night, though they’ll probably have just a light session or a walk-through on Monday to give players a chance to recover. But there’s still plenty of mental prep to do, which will start right away for Stafford, Sean McVay and the rest of the team.
