Rams WR Cooper Kupp isn’t certain to return this week vs. Raiders

Sean McVay said Cooper Kupp isn’t certain to play this weekend against the Raiders, with Monday being “a big day” for his chances of suiting up

Cooper Kupp has missed the last three games with an ankle injury but it wasn’t serious enough to land him on injured reserve, which would’ve forced him to miss at least four games. The Los Angeles Rams hope he can return on Sunday when they host the Las Vegas Raiders but Sean McVay said once again on Monday that it’s not certain Kupp will play.

McVay said Kupp will go through a workout with trainers on Monday, which will help determine whether the receiver is ready to get back on the field this weekend.

McVay also added that he wants to see “return to performance,” which is different than simply “return to play.” In other words, he wants to make sure Kupp is all the way back and 100% healthy before taking the field.

“He’s making good progress,” McVay said on Monday. “I’ll have an injury update in regards to how today goes for him. What does that affect? There is a possibility he could be ready this week. There’s also a possibility that he might not be ready. So today is a big day for him.”

Kupp suffered a sprained ankle in Week 2 during the Rams’ loss to the Cardinals. Tutu Atwell and Jordan Whittington have helped fill in during his absence, but Kupp isn’t an easy player to replace.

McVay said last week that the Raiders game was an “ideal target” for Kupp to return but by no means did he guarantee the receiver would play in Week 7 against Las Vegas.
