The Los Angeles Rams have been forced to make a number of roster moves in recent weeks due to injury and COVID-19 complications, and that trend will be even more evident this week as the regular season comes to a close.
The team announced five roster moves Tuesday, one of which was placing Cooper Kupp on the reserve/COVID-19 list. The Rams also signed Blake Bortles from the Broncos practice squad as a third quarterback option with Jared Goff sidelined due to a broken thumb.
Additionally, they activated Bobby Evans from COVID-19 reserve, placed Darrell Henderson on IR and waived cornerback Dee Virgin from the practice squad after signing him last week.
#LARams transactions:
• signed QB Blake Bortles
• activated OT Bobby Evans from reserve
• placed RB Darrell Henderson on IR
• placed WR Cooer Kupp on reserve/COVID-19 list
• waived DB Dee Virgin from the practice squad— Los Angeles Rams (@RamsNFL) December 29, 2020
Bortles spent last season with the Rams but never really got an opportunity to play behind Goff. Sean McVay has already said John Wolford will be the starter on Sunday against the Cardinals, but it doesn’t hurt to have a veteran like Bortles on the roster in case something happens.
As for Kupp, this doesn’t mean he’s tested positive for COVID-19 or that he’s been ruled out for the season finale. As long as he tests positive leading up to Sunday’s game, he will be eligible.
