Rams S John Johnson is signing $33.75M deal with Browns

John Johnson is heading east, agreeing to terms with the Cleveland Browns.

John Johnson’s tenure with the Los Angeles Rams is coming to an end. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Johnson has agreed to terms on a contract with the Cleveland Browns.

Mike Garafolo reported the deal is for three years and is worth $33.75 million, including $24 million guaranteed.

The Rams drafted Johnson in the third round back in 2017, Sean McVay’s first year as head coach in Los Angeles. He quickly became a key starter on defense as a rookie and has maintained that role ever since.

In 2020, Johnson was the defensive signal-caller for the Rams, wearing the green dot on his helmet and rarely coming off the field. He made 105 tackles, had one interception, broke up eight passes and didn’t allow a single touchdown in coverage.

The Rams are going to miss Johnson, but they prepared for his eventual departure by drafting the likes of Taylor Rapp, Terrell Burgess and Jordan Fuller in the last two years – all of whom should contribute in meaningful ways next season.
