The Rams may be on the verge of using their fourth kicker of the season tonight against the New England Patriots. Los Angeles announced before the game that Austin MacGinnis has been called up from the practice squad, making him eligible to play.
Matt Gay is questionable with a shoulder injury, which is the reason for MacGinnis’ promotion. He has yet to play a game for the Rams but will get a chance to Thursday night against New England.
MacGinnis was signed to the practice squad before Gay was added to the 53-man roster, but Gay wound up winning the competition in practice and has kicked for the last three games.

It’s possible the Rams could have both kickers active against the Patriots, with MacGinnis simply being an emergency option. Gay didn’t appear on the injury report until Wednesday when he was limited by the shoulder injury.
Gay has missed two field goal attempts for the Rams this season but made all 10 of his extra point tries.
