It has been a quiet start to the year for Allen Robinson in his debut season with the Los Angeles Rams. With Robinson being nearly nonexistent in the offense for the first four weeks, Sean McVay realizes the Rams need to do a much better job at getting him involved in the offense.
“Yeah, like I mentioned, it’s just kind of been a struggle overall. There’s been a lot of different things. Being able to get receivers the ball is such a product of the offense as a whole. We’re at our best when everybody’s getting involved,” McVay said. “You look at the two games that we’ve been able to kind of stay on schedule, it’s been getting different guys involved. Obviously (WR) Cooper’s (Kupp) a huge part of it, but whether it be Allen or any of the other eligibles, those are things that we’re continuing to work towards. We’ve got a lot of work to do. We still have a lot of time, but we’ve got to be better for sure.”
Through the first four weeks of the season, the Pro Bowl wideout has caught only nine passes on 18 targets for 95 yards and one touchdown. Four receptions, 53 yards, and the touchdown came in Week 2 versus the Atlanta Falcons.
Matthew Stafford has refused to look in the direction of Robinson to begin the season, especially with the injuries to the offensive line. The veteran wide receiver has received the third-most targets on the team, however, he has 36 fewer targets than Cooper Kupp and 20 fewer targets than Tyler Higbee.
The Rams desperately need someone else to step up at the wide receiver position alongside Kupp with defenses keying in on slowing down the All-Pro wide receiver. McVay has mentioned doing a better job at getting Robinson more involved already this season, so now it’s about putting actions to words moving forward.
At first glance, either Robinson has lost a step at the wide receiver position or the Rams are doing a poor job at getting him involved in the aerial attack. It could be a mixture of both, but with Los Angeles handing the 29-year-old wideout a three-year, $45 million contract in the offseason, McVay and the offensive staff will need to get things figured out quickly.
